Rehearsal Dinner
an exhibition by Momo Gordon and Guillaume Jannes
Welcome to the opening on the 11th of September from 17:00!
VROOM presents Rehearsal Dinner, the inaugural duo-exhibition of artists Momo Gordon (1992, USA) and Guillaume Jannes (2000, BE).
Ever since the global heatwave of August 2022 Gordon and Jannes have shared a digital life on the fringes of their respective realities. Spanning three years and one ocean, the artists’ correspondence uncovered echoes and commonalities - interweaving the very core of their practices.
Amalgamating shared auto-fictional motifs and theatrical rites of passage this exhibition marks the first physical node of their collaboration. In Rehearsal Dinner works on paper - drawings as portals - are staged alongside ritual gestures and sensory interventions, evoking moments of preparation and transition: the pause before an entrance, the breath before a sip, the quiet negative space in which two narratives meet and intertwine.
The exhibition is open on Saturdays and Sundays between 13:00 and 18:00 until the 5th of October.
Momo Gordon is a self taught artist focused on the emotional landscape. Based in Portland, OR, working primarily with graphite and handmade paper their work explores sentient spaces, hostile architecture, and anthropomorphized objects. In sequential works or standalone pieces, characters often have four walls. You may have seen their work with Fisk Projects, Saint Heron, or Nieves Books.
Guillaume Jannes’ practice engages with queer auto-ethnography, navigating the intersections of memory, narrative structures, and suspended temporalities. Employing associative narration Jannes interrogates the knotting of queer histories through charcoal drawings, texts, and installations. Drawing upon their background in illustration as a methodology for artistic production, Jannes generates sequential, non-linear visual narratives that redefine the boundaries of the medium.
